 Madonna of the Goldfinch (1505)
Madonna of the Goldfinch (1505), by Italian Renaissance painter Raphael, is an early example of a series of Madonnas painted by the artist throughout his life. The influence Florentine artist Leonardo da Vinci had on Raphael can be seen in the way the faces are depicted and in the use of chiaroscuro (dark and light contrasts). However, Raphael's handling of dark and light is subtler than the chiaroscuro of Leonardo da Vinci's work.
